Where do we meet for the adventure?

We meet at SharkXcursion premises at the Cutty Sark Hotel Scottburgh. Distance from Durban; 57km. Distance from Umhlanga; 76km. Distance from Ballito; 111km.

What will happen on the day?

Besides the fact that you will have a life changing adventure. We will meet at your schedule booking time for a welcoming cup of tea or coffee and a detailed briefing by one of our experienced shark guides who will make sure you have all the necessary information to make your excursion a safe and memorable experience where after our experienced staff will fit you out with your snorkelling or diving gear. Once everyone is comfortable and dressed we take an easy stroll down to the beach where our experienced skippers will give you a safety briefing for the launch. The shark adventure is a quick 15min boat ride from shore.

Can I use my own snorkelling equipment? Do I receive discount?

Yes you are welcome to bring your own wetsuit, mask and fins, however no discount will be provided.

What happens if there are no sharks?

The oceanic black tip sharks are all residents which mean sharks are guaranteed. If by chance there are no sharks, you will be issued with a voucher to re book for another day or receive your money back you not have the option to book for a return trip.

How long will I be in the water with the Sharks?

• Freediving or Cage Snorkel with Sharks 30 – 45 minutes • Scuba Diving with Sharks 50 minutes to an Hour

What do I need to bring?

Freediving or Shark Cage diving participants require a swim suit, towel and don’t forget the sunscreen. Scuba Diving with the Sharks participants will be required to present their dive certification card, photo ID, no additional personal equipment is needed. All necessary equipment will be provided. Guests will have access to change rooms and hot showers.

Can you pick us up for shark Experience?

Shuttle services are available at an additional charge.

How far in advance do I need to book?

It depends on the time of year you wish to book. The summer months of December to February traditionally book out fast. Weekends are also very popular throughout the year and generally fill up quickly. We suggest that you should book at least 3 – 4 days in advanced if you have a specific date in mind.

What time will we meet?

Our meeting times vary but are usually between 6am and 9am in the morning, the earlier we get out the better shark activity you will have.

Do I need to be able to swim?

No, You do not need any previous experience for shark snorkelling or shark cage diving, the wetsuit we provide you with makes you positively buoyant, which means you will be floating at all times. No chance of sinking.

Can I take my own pictures?

Yes you are welcome to bring your own GoPro or camera, there will be a trained videographer with you in the water with you and the footage will be shared providing you bring your own flash drive or storage device.

What happens if the launch is cancelled due to bad weather?

We will reschedule your adventure to the next available date.

What are the minimum age requirements?

• Shark Scuba Diving: Ages 15 and up (SCUBA certification is required) with a minimum of 20 logged dives and good buoyancy control • Freediving or Shark Cage diving: Ages 7 and up. Children ages 7 – 14 years old must be accompanied by an Adult family member , parent or guardian • All participants are required to complete a waiver, any participant under the age of 18 must have their waiver completed by a parent or legal guardian.

Do I need to be SCUBA certified?

SCUBA certification is required for the Scuba Diving with the Sharks. Swim/Snorkel with the Shark Swim do not require any experience, just a little bit of enthusiasm and a sense of adventure.

I think I might get sea sick. What should I do?

The night before your charter avoid excessive alcohol consumption and get a good night sleep. Many seasickness remedies are available; please consult your pharmacist regarding the best one for you. From experience we have found that taking a tablet the night before departure, in addition to one in the morning, is most effective.
